  • Around since 1870, this is one of the oldest and most cherished pubs in Sydney. Indeed, countless schooners and belly laughs have been had while perched on the famous balcony here, which has a long wooden bench and bar stools that overlook trendy Darling Street below. The vibe is incredibly casual - this is a quintessential Aussie local made for casual beers and ciders, hearty plates of better-than-average pub grub - think piri-piri chicken, avocado and grilled haloumi salad, burgers and beer-battered fish and chips. You can even bash out a few lazy games of pool in the upstairs bar. If there's no room on the ever-popular balcony, the main Jarrah-panelled drinking area is just as appealing - it's flanked by a centre square bar, crafted at perfect elbow-leaning height.
